cactus is a kind tom cat who cares deeply about those around him. despite this, he keeps himself relatively distant. he's always scared of getting hurt and doesn't like taking many risks, always preferring to be safe over sorry. this only falters when it really comes down to it, when his clan is in danger he'll do nearly anything to protect them. even strangers within in his clan have his affection, for he would risk his life for any thunderclanner any day. he's merciful, and he's not sure if he could take a life for his clans sake, but he likes to think he would do the right thing no matter what. he's honorable in battle, sympathetic and generous to those that are suffering.
on his bad days, cactus grows prickly and wont speak. he seems millions of miles away in his own head, missing complete sentences from his clan mates and stumbling right into danger without care. with the help of his clan mates, he can be coaxed out of this state after a few hours to a few days. he'll seem stressed after but eventually he'll recover.
other than this, he's generally prideful in his clan heritage, and is growing to be confident in himself after the loss of his sister. he's always been very dependent on others, but now that he's without family, he's learning to function on his own for the first time in his life, and is proving to be a strong warrior with lots of love and aspirations.
strengths kind, strong
weaknesses dissociative, slow
goals to serve thunderclan well, and in turn serve his dead mother well. he also wants to find his sister some day but doesn't want to risk leaving thunderclan in search for her.

appearance link blossom is an average sized, long furred, cream warrior. his fur is long and full, and incredibly soft and slightly frizzy at times. structurally, he is thin, and lean muscled. he has a slight pot belly each time he eats, but on an empty stomach his belly is very slim under his long coat. on his right paw, he is polydactyl, but with only one extra toe on his main paw, then a second along with his dew claw higher up on his ankle. he has ticked tabby stripes, and under-hues of white. his whiskers are long and wide, pearly white. his eyes are a deep, chocolate-y amber and his ears curl back oddly.
history
[childhood]
as a kitten, he was named after his spikey fur, called cactuskit. he had a single sister, possumkit, who was born with extra toes like him.
he grew up without a father, and it was a general mystery where the kittens came from. their mother, whiteblossom, never revealed the father, and cactuskit was never really interested in the matter, so he didn't pry. on occasion, possumkit would ask why they didn't have a dad, and cactuskit would often tune out whiteblossom's dismissive answers. it was like a black hole in his mind, whenever anyone discussed the matter of his father, he would immediately disassociate, and would come to moments later with little memory of what happened. as he grew, this would progress to disassociating when males talked about their kittens, when mothers worried about how their lover was fairing, or anything else associated with father figures.
one night, at four moons old, his sister discussed breaking out of camp and spying on shadowclan, who had recently been thought to have been stealing prey from the borders. while he wouldn't go with her, he covered for her, using his larger size to break a hole in the camp wall and watched out for clanmates while she slipped away. he spent a good few hours making up excuses, saying she was in the dirt-den and that she didn't want to be bothered because she was feeling ill, and he'd go in and out and pretend to speak to her.
when she returned, she had a twisted paw and was limping. he was worried, but didn't want to bust her cover, and he smuggled her into the dirt-den where she remained for a few more hours while he tended to her and tried to help her walk. after a while, he told her it was safe to emerge, and told her his plan. they'd pretend to play fight, he would get too rough, and she'd let out a cry and claim she twisted her paw.
their plan went off without a hitch, and the kitten was grateful for her brother covering for her. despite their expert plan, the medicine cat apprentice caught on. he didn't blow their cover, but instead pulled cactuskit aside.
possumkit would heal well, but because it had been hours before she was taken to the medicine den, she would have a limp for the rest of her life. if she had gotten help sooner, they might've been able to prevent it.
cactuskit was infinitely guilty for this, but his sister seemed like she was happy, and didn't pay much mind to the limp. while she was in the medicine den, she told a warrior that she had heard a yowl from the distance, towards the shadowclan border. the warrior believed her lie, and and took a patrol towards shadowclan. on the border, they discovered some blood trails and dead birds, and took off to follow the shadowclanners. they caught them in time, with some stolen prey in their jaws, and gave the shadowclanners a roughing up before returning the stolen food.
possumkit was congratulated for her vigilance and good hearing, and was tended to for the next few moons.
at six moons, cactuskit was made an apprentice.
[juniorhood]
as an apprentice, cactuspaw was an obedient young tom, following his mentors lead and learning quickly. he often visited his sister in the medicine den as she healed, and after a half moon she too was made an apprentice and trained along side him despite her limp.
when they were around eight moons, whiteblossom took a new mate in thunderclan, and was pregnant with his kittens soon. after only a few weeks, she caught a sickness, an infection in her lower regions that slowly trained the life from her and her unborn kittens. after a long battle, she gave birth to premature kittens, and died the sunrise after.
possumpaw tried her best to focus on training and acted like she wasn't bothered, but cactuspaw was devastated. he was looking forward to being an older brother, and missed his mother greatly. he was never close with whiteblossom's mate, but completely disconnected from him after his mother's death.
after her death, only a week or so after, there was a skirmish with riverclan at sunning rocks, and cactuspaw and possumpaw were present. cactuspaw was weak from grief, and the riverclanners beat on him without retaliation. possumpaw gave him a firm kick in the head and told him to get his sh*t together, and he quickly started to put to use what he had learned in his moons of training. possumpaw and him worked together, with her swiftness and his towering figure, they drove back the warriors. one riverclanner pulled possumpaw's mentor towards the water, and the older tom cat could hardly keep himself from falling in. possumpaw went after the riverclanner who fought to push her mentor's head under water. she dragged him away, struggling through the current.
cactuspaw plopped himself into the water, struggling with his thicker fur, but managed to grab his sister's mentor by the scruff and helped him to shore. the two fluffier toms were panting and flopped onto the sandy shore, exhausted. possumpaw returned moments later as the riverclan cats fled back to their camp. the warrior who had threatened her mentor's life laid motionless at the bottom of the sluggish river, but possumpaw was only worried for her trainer.
when they returned home, the two apprentices were congratulated for the heroic act, and were made warriors. they were named after their mother.
[adulthood]
cactusblossom and possumblossom spent their vigil with mixed feelings, but were comforted by each others company. cactus knew no other friends besides his sister, and treasured her deeply. her strange behavior in the next few moons would trouble him deeply.
possumblossom seemed ever distant, training hard but rarely participating in hunts. she was growing thin and her limp was growing worse.
he met her one day on the riverclan border, troubled. she starred off into the distance, watching the river flow.
"ever wonder where we came from?" she asked him.
"uhh... mom?" he answered, puzzled.
"and who else?"
cactusblossom flinched, knowing this wasn't the time to zone out. he'd have to bear this. "i don't know. maybe her mate was our father but we just didn't know it."
possumblossom shook her head. "couldn't've been. he's black and his parents were both black and white. mom was white. so, where did we come from? why are we ginger?"
cactusblossom shook his head.
his sister continued. "you know only riverclanners have extra toes."
"don't do this." he said, his eyes growing teary.
"that warrior i killed, before we became warriors, he... had ears like yours. they were curled, just like yours. mom's mate didn't have curled ears. we had to have come from someone else." she stated.
by now, cactus was a mess, all this talk of their father was deeply rocking his mental state.
"so? who cares?"
"you've never been curious?"
"no! i never have!" cactusblossom's eyes were big.
"well... i'm going to find out who he was. it's all i think about. i have to do something about it. i have to know where we came from."
convincing her to stay wasn't going to work, so cactusblossom just pleaded, and pleaded. that day, he lost his one and only friend, his best friend. she disappeared on the other side of the river.
even after moons, he didn't know where she went after that. he never saw her at gatherings or heard about her from the leader of riverclan.
he grew silent in the next few moons, miserable and missing out on work. though he recovered, he was never the same after she left. he made a friend in briarflight, as well as some other warriors, and continued on with his training and duties.
